Dental Coverage Original Medicare and standardized medicare supplement plans DO NOT provide coverage for Dental Care. However many Medicare Advantage Plans do offer dental coverage for a slight monthly charge of around 15 to 30 dollars a month depending on the level of care provided for. In addition, depending on the state there are private dental plans. The problem with most of these however is they normally offer a maximum annual benefit of somewhere between $1000 to $1500 a year, with deductibles, coinsurance and waiting periods. The net result is you may spend $400-$500 a year in premium and only receive slight that much more in benefits, and that is if you maximize the use of your benefits each year. If you are seriously concerned about dental care and you should be, if you are on a Medicare Advantage Plan than you might consider their dental option if available. Another option here is to utilize a dental discount network. Basically you pay around $100 a year to use a network and receive the network pricing which may be as much as 50% or more less for cost of services you would otherwise pay if you are not in a network. These networks are widespread and include the dentists normally found under a group health/dental plan. Then when you go to the dentist and instead of paying $800 dollars for a root canal, your cost would be more like $400, likewise for fillings and other services. In Washington we also offer Smart Smile, which offer similar pricing, is not a discount plan but is an insurance plan, with no annual limit.
